I love it. When I was a child, I liked it so much that I made a sandwich with it, to the horror of all the other diners.
Mashed potatoes Italian style
- Preparation time: 60 minutes

- 900 gr or 2 lbs of high starch potatoes
- 300 ml or 1 ¼ cup of whole milk
- 75 gr or 3 oz of cream
- 50 gr or 2 oz of butter
- Nutmeg to taste
- Grated parmesan to taste
- Salt to taste
- Instructions
- Wash the potatoes well.
- Boil them in a pot for about forty minutes.
- Drain them, peel them, and mash them with a potato masher.
- Warm the milk and the cream in a saucepan.
- In a pan, add the butter to the potatoes, stirring with a wooden spoon. Add milk and cream.
- Cook over a gentle flame for about ten minutes. Season with salt and sprinkle with nutmeg. Serve with grated Parmesan.
Tips to ensure the success of the dish:
- Purple potatoes are also an excellent alternative for mashed potatoes.
- To make the velvety puree, you should smash the potatoes at least twice to obtain the finest grain. Also, when mashed potatoes are cooked, I generally use an electric whisk for a few minutes to make it even more smooth.
