Simple but very tasty dish. Some recipes are inextricably linked to childhood and then later, for some mysterious reason, disappear. When I was little my mother made it at least once a week, then suddenly, it was no longer served at the family table and I then occasionally ate it in a pizzeria. Strange!

Crouton with mozzarella cheese and anchovies

  • Preparation time: 40 minutes

  • Ingredients
  • 200 gr or 7 oz of loaf bread
  • 200 gr or 7 oz of mozzarella cheese
  • 8 anchovies in oil
  • 20 gr or 1 tablespoon of butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  1. Instructions
  2. Cut the cheese and bread into slices.
  3. Place a slice of bread in a baking pan alternating with a slice of fiordilatte.
  4. Bake in a hot oven at 400 °F for about twenty minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, put the butter and anchovies in oil in a small pan and melt them over a low heat.
  6. As soon as the crouton is ready, portion it and pour over the anchovy sauce.
  7. Salt, if necessary, and pepper.

Tips to ensure the success of the dish:

  • Cut the cheese and the bread to the same thickness.
  • It would be advisable to use mozzarella left in the refrigerator for at least twenty-four hours to remove some of the milk.
